The diverticular disease is more common in the western than in the orients. Recently<br>the frequency was increased in orients according to the changes of the life style and the<br>improved diagnostic procedures. Colon is the most common site of diverticular disease in<br>the gastrointestinal tract. Approximately 95% of patients with diverticulum have<br>involvement of the sigmoid colon in the western, but 89% of colonic diverticula occured<br>in the right colon in our reviews<br>We have studied 107 cases of diverticular disease of the gastrointestinal tracts from<br>February, 1985 to February, 1990. retrospectively<br>The results were as follows:<br>1) The frequency of colorectal diverticula was 1.5%(115 cases) out of 8291 cases of<br>barium enema<br>2) The colonic diverticulum was most common(70%), and the duodenum(14.9%),<br>ileum(10.2%), stomach(2.8%) and jejunum(1.8%) were involved in decreasing orders of<br>frequency.<br>3) Right colon involvement of the diverticula were more common(89.3%) than those in<br>the left colon.<br>4) The male to female ratio were 1.7: 1 in the colonic diverticula and 1.4: 1 in the all<br>diverticular diseases.<br>5) The post-operative morbidity was 13.1%.<br>
