We have examined the relationship between the courses of the fistulous tract and<br>internal opening in 68 Patients who underwent surgery from Jan. 1989 to Aug. 1992. As<br>a result of this study, we determined as follows.<br>In 34 patients with anal fistulas having posterior midline internal opening, the<br>male/female ratio was 16 : 1 and the curved type was predominant, 22 cases(64.7%).<br>The coures of the anal fistulas were curved in patients whose fistulous tract measured<br>2.5 cm or above. Frequent appearance of the curved types in these patients probably<br>arose from the difference in the anal anatomy of the Courtney space in Posterior Part of<br>the anus.<br>In anal fistulas with anterior midline internal openings(15 patients), the straight type<br>was predominant with 1 I patients(73.3%). All patients whose fistulous tracts were 3 cm<br>or above had curved type of the fistulas. In anal fistulas with lateral internal openings,<br>(19 patients) the fistulas were all straight except one which had a long (>3cm) fistulous<br>tract.<br>
