The surgical treatment of hemorrhoids is needed in patients who complained severe<br>symptoms or whose treatment was failed with conservative treatments. Rectal mucosal<br>redundancy is common associated finding in patient with third or fourth<br>decree<br>hemorrhoids who requires hemorrhoidectomy.<br>Authors performed plication of redundant rectal mucosa before hemorrhoidectomy in 34<br>patients who were admitted at department of Surgery of the Hallym university, Dong<br>San Sacred Heart Hospital during 1 year from Feb. 1991 to Jan. 1992.<br>Authors obtained results as follows;<br>1) Operative field was better because of small amount of bleeding during operation.<br>2) The extent of dissection of hemorrhoidal mass became smaller because of reduced<br>redundant rectal mucosa.<br>3) The incidence of complication such as anal stenosis, skin tag formation, secondary<br>bleeding and fecal incontinence, was low.<br>4) The patient did not complain tenesmus.<br>So, authors reported the method of plication of redundant rectal mucosa during<br>hemorrhoidectomy and underlying pathophysiology.<br>
