Ileoanal reservoir should be considered a reasonable alternative for selected patients<br>with ulcerative colitis and familial polyposis. It completely eradicates the disease, it<br>avoids a permanent abdominal stoma, and it allows the patient evactuate stool normally.<br>Although many patients are satisfied with the results. the procedure is associated with<br>significant morbidity, and functional results may be less than Perfect. At the Present<br>time, technical refinements seem to be the best methods of ensuring good postoperative<br>outcomes. 7 "J" ileoanal reservoir were made at Department of Surgery, Kyungpook<br>University Hospital from August 1988 to August 1991.<br>There were 3 men and 4 women. Ulcerative colitis gras the diagnosis in 3 cases, and<br>familial polyposis in 4 cases.<br>There were no major postoperative complications except one pouch-perineal fistula.<br>In five ileostomy-closure cases, their functional results were good: no<br>evacuation<br>difficulty, no incontinence, the average daily frequency of 5∼7 times. The remaining two<br>cases were waiting for ileostomy closure.<br>
